Well, today is supposed to be the first day of summer and the longest day of the year, and yet the weather is as dreary as a typical British Bank Holiday Monday! Do we care? No, because we have our own sunshine!
This is the piece for Rosa's Found Art theme of Sun last week. I've painted it both sides using kiddies paint and PVA glue. I'm not sure why I added glue; I just thought it would make the paint more durable. On the other side I have written "I got sunshine on a cloudy day" and drawn a little sun above it and a couple of sun flowers below it, but I can't seem to get a good picture of it. I cut it out of the board that was the backing for the frame I used in my competition piece. I'm not sure what the backing is called. It's quite thick and stiff, but it's not really hardboard because it's not made of wood. It's like high density card. Anyway, I shall leave a message with it for the person to put it in their window for all year round sun! Who knows, one day I might be walking down the street and see it in someones window! How cool would that be? Talking of walking...
The theme for the previous week was Walk. Again, I cut this out of the frame backing. This is one piece of card painted both sides.
And now for the competition news. I received my letter today and my piece hasn't been accepted for the exhibition. I'm not sure how I feel about that. Of course I feel disappointed. Rejected? A little. But I don't want this to sap my confidence in the same way that the Art College rejection did. I shall continue - undaunted. (After I've drowned my sorrows in hot chocolate at Costa Coffee that is!) I'm already planning my next large 3D piece.
Sun measures approx. 35cm or 14 inches diameter. Walk measures just over 18cm x 18cm or 7 inches.

I love your found art pieces! the sun one is really cheerful and also I love the signage feel of the walk-don't walk.
Hey, don't get discouraged about the exhibit! I've read somewhere that you have to enter 100 calls for entry to get accepted in 5, so.. one down, 99 to go! hang in there!
I'm trying to post this link, let me try again, you might find it interesting... I think blogger doesn't let you put links on comments, and I just realized I dont have your email address!! ha!!, let me try again, if not, I will post the link on one of my comments, lets see if it works!

Thank you Rosa, the "Walk/Don't Walk" piece was supposed to be like those signs they used to have in New York (or wherever it was!). It was the only thing I could think of! Well, it was that or one of those characters with two holes for you to put your fingers through for legs! Hahaha! :D
Thank you for your encouraging words about the exhibit, and for the link also, it was very interesting. I'm not letting it get to me though. I'm actually looking forward to having it at home again, because I barely had time to look at it before I had to drop it off!
Hey Un D,
I am sorry that you didn't make into the competition. I am glad that your spirits are up! I get rejected all the time so know that you are not alone. I think it makes me more determined when I get turned down. I always feel like, " i'll show them who they just turned down!" And then I just work harder.
Use it Girl!

Thank you Leanne. I have to say, the same thought has crossed my mind! Although I was disappointed at first, I now feel that I don't really need their acceptance to validate my art - I get that through the lovely comments I receive here from real artists like you.
I can't stop creating now - I've had too many ideas!
I'm so happy that you added a photo of yourself to your blog! I always like seeing who I'm visiting.
Don't be discouraged about the exhibit. I think Rosa got those stats right. Keep on keepin' on.
Thank you Cynthia, I'm glad you like it :)
I will definitely keep going! Thank you for your encouragement.
I add my heartful, THHHFFFPP! to (perhaps it more like at) the jury. Glad to hear it hasn't dappened your spirits at all. :)
I was rejected this year from an artshow that I have particpated in for over 10 years. It happens. My initial gut reaction is "Well they can just bite me!" But eventually the sentiment wears off. :)Even after all these years rejection still stings a little.
On to the positive. I am liking the sun quite alot. and the walk-dont walk are cool too. This found art is still a new concept for me. Do you just leave them about randonly to be "found"?
Thank you Mona.
Wow, that must sting after participating for over 10 years. That expression "bite me" - my husband tells me that's a bit like "eat my shorts"? I don't think we really have an equivalent expression in this country, but my sisters are fond of "suck eggs"!
I'm glad you like the sun and walk/don't walk sign! I actually left these pieces in a shopping centre (I think you would call it a Mall?) at the weekend, but when I went back at closing time they were still there! So I took them home to leave somewhere else another day! I'm glad I did because my friend really looked like she needed some sunshine yesterday, so I gave it to her. I left the walk sign at a cash point.
I usually just leave a little note with them to say that it is free for the finder to keep and that it is part of the Found Art Tuesday project. Rosa explains more about it here.
Ah, I was wondering. I mean I probably wouldn't just pick up something and take it home. So the note would be important.
Not sure what the equivalent of "bite me" is but both "eat my shorts" and "suck eggs" sufficiently express's the sentiment.
