Open Art Competition - Finished and Framed

It's finally done! Hallelujah for the hot sunny day we have had today, which was essential for drying out my sand, not to mention the piece itself.

The sand drying process

The finished piece, framed and ready to go

What a week that has been! Tomorrow I take my piece to the gallery at the local theatre. The best pieces will be exhibited there until the end of July, but if my submission has not been chosen then I should hear by post by the 26th June. The winners will be announced at the preview on 2nd July, but I just hope I am lucky enough to have my piece exhibited.

My artists statement about this piece reads as follows:

"This piece reflects many issues. That of littering our beautiful country, and also deeper issues such as recycling, and calculating our carbon footprints. Also, on a religious level, do we expect God to carry us (as in "Footprints in the Sand" by Mary Stevenson) even though we pollute his planet? And do we find that he does carry us, despite this fact?"

Thank you Leanne, I'm glad you like it. I just hope the judges do too!

Very Cool! I like the story that goes with it.

I must say I didn't realize that I had been gone so long. You have made so many changes in the past couple of days. I'm liking the new banner and a photo of you to boot. :) Plus you've been really busy creating.

You go girl!

Thanks Mona :D

Don't worry, I don't think you have been gone that long, I've just been more creative than usual - and loving it! As you can see, even when I wasn't busy with a piece of art I was making creative changes to my blog!

I've had a day of rest today - which has more to do with the fact that I have ran out of yellow paint!

Ah, the blessings of a day of rest for lack of paint. Nice.

So are those your footprints?

I like your statement and what you are saying with your piece.

Your new template is really nice undaunted :) and boy have you been busy, your pencil drawing is fabu.

Yep, they're mine! Although I must confess I used my finger to define the toes as they didn't come out very well.

I probably didn't need to wait for yellow paint after all! I wanted it for a couple of found art pieces, but I've decided to use poster paints mixed with PVA glue instead - it's cheaper!

Thank you Jafabrit :) I was on a bit of a creative high last week!

After seeing Basquiat's work, a crisp packet and a coke can seems a bit tame! There's always next time though!
