The Tree Fairy

Yes, I'm going with Kathy's choice of name as it sounds so much prettier than "Foliate Head"!!

I had some problems with it this morning - I couldn't get the flamin' tube out! After much huffing and puffing, and pulling and squeezing, I was tempted to throw the thing out of the window! I nearly pushed the bottom out trying to grip the stupid tube from the bottom of inside! In the end there was only one thing I could do...

'Tis all mended now though, and I'm feeling calm and relaxed again...

Here is the finished piece. (Click photo's to enlarge)

I actually prefer mine to the plastic one (can I say that?) because for a start it's not plastic! Also I didn't really like the pixie ears on the other one (scroll down for photo in earlier post), and she has a bit of an evil thing going on with her eyebrows! I loved the concept though, so what can you do except make your own improved version?!

Scott prefers my one too - there's something about the expression on the other one that freaks him out! I definitely think my tree fairy looks calmer.

It's intended as a vase, or an indoor plant pot. I have some deep plant pots in my home and I just put pebbles in the bottom to raise up the inner pot. It measures 8 inches in height, 5 inches in diameter (not including face), and the inside circumference is about 14 inches.

Attractive design. Is that the final color?

Thank you MadSilence :) I'm not sure what the final colour will be yet. At the moment the clay looks quite grey as it is still damp. I'm hoping that once it is fired it will look a lovely speckled brown colour, but I'm not sure if I bought the right clay, and also the firing temperature will affect the colour. So I really have to wait and see, and then decide whether to glaze it clear or with colour.

Beautiful work Linda!
Computer has been down and I have been sick so I have been sleeping a lot. I missed so much!
The new piece is wonderful and I like your piece better than the original too!

Thank you Leanne!

I thought you had been a little quiet lately! I presumed you were busy doing shows. I'm sorry that you have been so poorly. I look forward to seeing some updates on your blog :)

I am flattered you liked the fairy idea..but in all reality, that is what she really looks like..a very wise and beautiful tree fairy. And may I repeat, she is lovely. Oh I can't wait to see the final color. I love her expression...serene and at one with her tree. I had to laugh when you made that comment about Scott being freaked out at the expression of the plastic pot. I felt the same way...the plastic thing had sort of a sneering, sneaky evil thing going on.

Thank you so much Kathy :)

It's so funny that you thought the same thing as Scott! I didn't really notice the expression of the plastic one right away - I thought she looked lovely, then I thought "actually, her eye brows do look evil" and then "and come to think of it, her nose is a bit pointy" and then "I don't like those pixie ears, I thought they they were leaves!" And before you know it I thought she looked freaky too!

Linda

Thank you, thank you, thank you for that sculptor's site. Her greyhounds are beautiful and I think I found something for my hubby's bday...one of her boxes (looks like a pencil holder). I love this artists work. Very cool. Now if only I could get you to sculpt greyhounds!
