This Week's Classes

For the third week running I have not been to clay class! This week and last week was due to "bad" weather. However, I have been working on my polar bear at home quite a bit and I think it's actually starting to take shape now, instead of just looking like a large bowl with feet!

I'm having to stuff it with news paper to help support it. (Sorry about the blurry photo's)

I realise I am by no means past the most tricky stage, and I still don't really know what I'm doing but it seems to be working!

At our drawing and painting class last night I added a little more to the "Italy" painting that I had started at home last week.

I'm not sure if it looked better with or without the pen, but I didn't take a before and after photo so it's hard to tell now. Again, I don't really know where I'm going with this. I'm waiting for it to "speak to me"!

The planned lesson for us this week was to take a magazine cutting and to try to match the colour, painting an abstract piece around it. I must admit, I'm reluctant to show this photo because I don't like it at all. I didn't get to finish it either, and I can't see me going back to it to do so.

I used my water colours, just because they're easier to transport and I had them with me anyway for the Italy piece. It's ok, I really won't be offended if you hate this! To be honest, whilst I was painting it I couldn't help but think "I'd rather be at home working on my polar bear"!

In other news
We have workmen in today replacing our bathroom. I think I'm supposed to be happy about that, but the water will be off all day so I shall have to pee in a bucket. I have no idea what I will do if I need to poo! Also, they have the front door wide open and we still have snow on the ground. It's a little bit on the chilly side!

Coming up this weekend: the great prize give-away! Don't miss it!

The polar bear is coming along nicely. Are you going to take the paper out once it sets up? Or just fire it inside the piece?

Just curious.
Can't wait to see the full bear!

The paintings are interesting. In the abstract, I love the tunnel you created. It makes me wonder what is through the tunnel.

3 weeks and I will be in London!
Whoooo Hoooo!

ACtually I really like what you did with the abstract (more so on the left side and the circle). I am not as crazy on the flames but even though you hate it it may inspire shapes and forms, colours you could use in other work.

Oh painter girl, how lucky you are going to London. which part? I used to live in Wembley and went to high school there.

Thank you Leanne. I'm not sure about the news paper. I was going to leave it inside but I suppose I should check with my tutor because it will leave ash to clear up inside the kiln. Even though it's large he doesn't mind me taking it in to class to fire! I was worried about that because he may have to fire the kiln just for me!

I know, it's so exciting! I can't wait! I wonder if we'll still have snow when you come?!

Thank you Jafabrit :) I suppose chances are that if I loved it everyone else would hate it! We're just all so different and like different things. I just find it so hard to paint abstract - it's not as easy as people think!

Leanne and I are going to meet up when she comes over to the UK, and she is going to take one of my clay classes!! Fantastic isn't it? Maybe you could come over and do a knitting class? :P

Love your polar bear! I like your Italy drawing, it looks like a mermaid playing a tamborine in front of a little Italian cafe. I like your abstract painting, the colors are bright and fun!

Love,

Queeeenyyyy! I've missed you! I wondered where you had got to! Thank you so much for dropping by and leaving a comment!

There's not much to the polar bear at the moment, but I hope she'll look great when she's finished. It's coming a long well, so I shall update on that soon. I'm glad you like the Italy painting too. I thought she looked like a mermaid as well!

Lovely to hear from you!

OK Miss Linda...You have me rolling on the floor laughing! I guess you will need a bigger bucket for the poo. The Italian painting is really neat but I agree that I think you need some more in the background. The polar bear is coming along nicely and the other painting is a wonderful stretch from what you have been doing. So there...I liked everything!

Hahaha! The thing is I didn't want a bucket of poo sitting around the house!! Thankfully the plumber had finished before I needed to do... ahem... a number two!

Yeah, I'm a bit stuck on the Italian painting. Maybe I should have collaged it first? Hmm... I think the lady's arm looks funny anyway, so I may view this as a trial run. I really wasn't sure if I would be able to paint the coffee shop/restaurant, so at least I know I can do that now.

I have done lots more on the polar bear, so I will post an update of that soon. And I can't believe so many people like that hideous... thing! But thanks anyway :D
