Polar Bear WIP

Ok, so I wasn't going to post an update just yet, but I anticipate a long and tiring day tomorrow (early start, plasterer coming, shopping, blah blah blah), and I'm awake now (although I shouldn't be) so "there's no time like the present" and all that.

We were blessed with more snow on Thursday evening. We didn't get much and it's mostly melted now, but it came down quite heavy for a while. It came at just the right time because we were supposed to be going out and I wanted to stay home to work on my polar bear! Scott and I looked out of the window and said "Ooh no, we can't drive in that treacherous weather! We'll have to stay home! What a shame!" Hehehe :)

So here is my polar bear so far.

Those feet don't even look like they're related! They look like a random pair of wellies left in front of my bear! Eventually they will be attached though!

I still don't really know what I'm doing, but this got me thinking about art and the creative process. I know some people like to have a plan before they start, maybe even draw out some sketches, but I'm too impatient and I just want to jump right in, although I do think about the process quite a lot. I suppose you could say I make mental sketches - loose ones! Do you plan? Or make it up as you go?

I was also thinking about something Cynthia said before, about our first pieces being special. Also, Whitney posted recently about those special pieces that we just want to keep. This got me thinking. There are quite a few pieces of my own that I don't want to part with, but I suppose eventually I will run out of space. As I create over the years, will this feeling pass? Will my art stop being special to me? And if it's not special, will I still want to create it? How do you feel about your art?

Ooh, I nearly forgot the great prize give-away! Ok, here's what you have to do:

The first 5 people that respond to this post will get something made by me, it will be my choice, but made especially for you. However... this offer does have some restrictions and limitations:

-What I create will be just for you.
-I will make no guarantees that you will like it (but I hope you do !)
-You will receive this item before the end of the year (or sooner).
-You will have no idea of what the item is going to be or when you will receive it.

The catch is that you have to repost this "MEME" and put together something to be sent out as 5 surprises of your own. These could be anything... a piece of art, a photo, a poem or haiku, a quote... whatever you like, let your imagination run wild!

I've taken part in this on Leanne's blog, and I can't wait to see the surprise I get! I just know it will be fabulous!

I am so happy to be back in the blogging world! I have missed it.....so good to be back...I will probably put a post up today or REALLY soon!

Your polar bear is starting to look more like a polar bear. Are you going to glaze it white? (Glaze...is that what you call it...or is it slip?) A light blue would be pretty :)

From what I can tell so far, he looks a little skinny. You need to fatten him up.

Love,
Queeny

So, do I name my post MEME and say that the next 5 people that respond to my post will get something made by me?

It's good to have you back Queeny!

Yes, it's called glaze, but this particular clay becomes white once it has been fired, so I'm not sure if I will glaze it. My tutor said that Swanee has come out very white, but I haven't seen her yet!

I agree! Yes, he/she does look a bit skinny!

I shall highlight the bit on my blog that I copied directly from Leanne's blog, which she in turn copied from somewhere else! I presume you can title the post any way you please. Do you think I will be allowed to take part on your blog, even though I'm already taking part on Leanne's blog? Or will that mean that I have to send out 10 things?!

Of course you can take part in my blog :) and you don't have to make ten things not unless you would like to. I am only going to make five :)

Queeny

Oh Mr. Polar Bear is shaping up nicely!
I was wondering what would happen if I signed up for your meme Un D. I was scared I would have to do 10 but as I only have 3 takers on my blog it would probably only make it up to maybe 5 in the end.
So.....I would love to be a part of you meme!
Count me in!

Well, Queeny says it's ok to take part in more than one, so that's good enough for me!

They look like a random pair of wellies left in front of my bear! - Hah, I take it wellies are a type of boots? That's what I was thinking, but I know how clay comes in stages. After seeing this shape up and your other work, I think you are a born sculptor!

PS - England is getting more snow this year than Denver, CO!

Thank you so much Cynthia! Wow! What a compliment!

Yes, wellies is short for wellington boots - sort of rubber boots that don't let the water in. You must have them too, but I don't know what they're called in the states.

Woohoo! I can't believe we had more snow than you! Sadly it has all melted now, but only in the last day or two - it really lingered.
