Big Kids!

Firstly, I have to say a huge thank you to Kathi Dunphy for sending me her snow! At 2:31am on Thursday she commented that she wished she could send us snow lovers some of their snow, and less than 20 minutes later we had heavy snow!

It was so exciting! I just couldn't sleep! I kept getting up every 10 minutes to look out of the window! Finally, a little before 4am, Scott and I decided to go out for a walk in it! We tried to make a snowman but the snow wouldn't stick together very well when we rolled it. We had to scoop it up with a dust pan in the end! But isn't he cute?

Yeah, the snowman's not bad either! :) I think that's one of my girly gloves that Scott is holding! We couldn't find his, and when I pulled these ones out he said "I'm not wearing those!" Yeah right. Once you get cold enough you'll wear anything!

This was the view from our window at about 11am. Scott measured about 4 1/2 inches on our path.

Notice that even the road is completely white, due to lack of traffic. It was so quiet all day - absolute bliss. The school was closed, and it was so lovely to hear the children playing outside with their parents (yes, some parents still do that it seems!). And no traffic! It felt like a holiday.

I was following the weather news quite closely because I wanted to know when we would get more snow! But I gave up in the end because the news reports about the snow are so negative! "Traffic problems due to snow", "Schools shut because of snow", "People skiving work because of snow", "Country comes to standstill because of snow", "I'm embarrassed to be British because of snow", "When I were a lass I walked 30 miles to school in 10 foot of snow" blah blah blah. So what? Look at it! It's beautiful! It's fun! Go out and enjoy it and stop bloomin' moaning about it!

So anyway, as you may already know, my classes were cancelled this week because of snow! But I've been doing the odd creative thing here and there at home this week. On Monday evening I carved another lino cut as a template for a dish to go with the plant pot I made ages ago! On Tuesday (or Wednesday, I can't remember) I started a little mixed media painting. Here it is so far:

In case you're wondering, I didn't paint Italy! That was printed, but I drew the lady and I'm not sure if you can see it but I've drawn the outline of an Italian restaurant as well, which I will paint with water colours and then outline with pen. I'm not sure what else I will do with this piece yet.

Also this week I started another major clay piece! Umm... this...

...is supposed to be this...

Can you see it yet? No, me neither! I think I started it a little on the large side as well! Never mind, it will be fine, trust me - I have no idea what I am doing but it will be fine! It makes me feel better when I remember the fact that there were times when I didn't have a clue what I was doing with Swanee! And she came out fine! So this will be fine... I'm sure it will be...

Yeah, the snowman's not bad either! :) - okay I cracked a smile on this remark!

Fun when it snows where it's not supposed to. It's magical!

Hehehe, thanks Cynthia.

Yes, I love the snow! We just don't have it often enough to really be prepared for it, but we certainly don't have it often enough to moan about it!

How about all that snow! If you want more...we have about 15 inches here in northern Illinois that just won't go away. Love the new painting and the bear (which will turn out just fine).
