Drawing and Painting - Class One

This Monday coming (the 29th) will be the first class of my ceramics course! I can't wait! I feel like my life begins on Monday.

In the mean time, I have begun a drawing and painting class! Not before time, some of you might say! It will be good for me because left to my own devices I would never choose to draw a still life, and yet I will have to as part of this course, so it will help me to become more rounded in my abilities, and help me to improve my observation skills.

This is the result of my first lesson - an apple and a shell, in case you can't tell!

The apple was drawn using a sort of charcoal pencil, and the shell was drawn using a piece of charcoal. To be honest, I'm not happy with either of them, but then I didn't really want to draw them! It's a start anyway.

Well, I like them both. Doing that shell in charcoal must have been very difficult.

Looking forward to seeing your ceramics when you get started!

Thank you Kari. You know, the opening to the shell was the hardest bit and yet I think that bit came out better! I just sort of got bored with the rest of it! And the charcoal was sooo messy!

Your life has already begun girlfriend!

The clay class will just be part of the icing :) Hope you have a terrific experience.

The drawing is fantastic too - I find shells incredibly difficult to draw.

Ahh, thank you Cynthia :) I've been waiting for this for so long, I can't believe the day is almost here! It's like waiting for your wedding day!

Yeah, I'm not sure which was worse - the fact that it was a shell or trying to draw it in charcoal! I've decided I'm not a fan of that stuff!

I think they are good start and really shells are a bugger to do.

I have a love hate relationship with charcoal and we are using it for our drawing class a lot.

Thank you Jafabrit. I was supposed to use charcoal in my class last night but I used pencil instead!

The apple was the first sketch I did in my drawing class! What the teacher had us do was draw the apple whole, then take a bite out of it, draw the apple with the bite, and draw and bite draw and bite until the apple was a core!

That sounds like really good observational/drawing practice Queen Crafty Girl! I shall mention that to my tutor! Thanks!
